Cervical Neuralgia

Cervical neuralgia is a term for pain and other symptoms associated with nerve dysfunction or injury in the cervical(upper) region of the spine

Causes


  • Occipital neuralgia is most commonly caused by pinched nerves in the root of a person's neck.
  •  Sometimes this is caused by muscles that are too tight in a person's neck.
  •  In some cases, it can be caused by a head or neck injury. 
  • Chronic neck tension is another common cause.
Symptoms


  • Aching, burning, and throbbing pain that typically starts at the base of the head and radiates to the scalp.
  • Pain on one or both sides of the head.
  • Pain behind the eye.
  • Sensitivity to light.
  • Sensitivity to sound.
  • Slurred speech.
  • Pain when moving the neck.
Exercise for neuralgia

  1. “To strengthen the occipital muscles, the chin tuck is an effective exercise to prevent neck pain and can be performed several times throughout your workday.
  2.  If you repeat the chin tuck on a regular basis, it can improve your posture. 
  3. Sit upright with your head and spine aligned.
